About Suzy Mandel-Canter

Los Angeles artist Suzy Mandel Canter, aka Suzy Mandel, originally from New York, is a illustrator with publications through Little Brown and Co., Warner Juvenile Books, and Viking publishers.
Suzy’s commissioned mural is at the Anchorage Children’s Science Museum in Anchorage, Alaska, and is part of its permanent collection. Her children’s book illustration from Dr. Cat is part of the Zimmerlli Children’s Museum’s permanent collection.
Suzy has also successfully produced an impressive array of artistic items for the mass market: greeting cards, coloring books and stickers, calendars, and books.
Her glass model’s sculptures were shown in Soho in the early 80’s, and her glass jewelry was exhibited at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC as part of the East Village Designer’s Group.
During the 1990s she focused on new media and animation while raising her two sons. While living in Hawaii Suzy studied at Pacific New Media, at the University of Hawaii. Shortly after taking classes in new media; she became an assistant teacher herself.  During that period of time, Suzy also created vinyl sculptures used in a set design for Betty and Fritz for 'Dances We Dance' a Modern Dance Co. Performances were held at various Museums in Hawaii. The vinyl sculptures are part of the permanent collection of this dance company.

The digital world captured her attention so much that in 2000 after  moving from Hawaii to Los Angeles; she turned both her own and her notable father, Saul Mandel’s illustrations into short animations, game designs, and animated greeting cards.
In 2008, Suzy was the 29th Bronze medal winner of the 2008 Telly Awards for Documentary Film and Video in the category of History and Biography for the piece she created and produced about her father, “Saul Mandel—50 Years of Advertising Art.”
Suzy attended Pratt Institute in NYC as a graphic design major while living in the East Village in the 1980's making glass art.  In 2005, returning back to school, she received her Interactive Media Certification from The Academy of Entertainment and Technology in Santa Monica in 2005.
Back to her roots of traditional art, Suzy is creating an entire new collection of watercolor illustrations inspired by her recent trip to France, Germany and Alaska which some of them will become wine labels for her homemade award winning wines. Visit : AND
